GLOBAL EYE MISSION PARTNERSHIPS

WHAT WE DO

Global Eye Mission partners with eye programs in the developing world for the purpose of facilitating the development of long-term clinical and surgical eye services in under-served regions. We invite you to read about our efforts around the world to work with local and international partners in providing quality eye care to those in need.

The projects we partner with are characterized by a commitment to excellence, service to the poor, teaching, local and international partnerships and a long-term goal of developing locally sustainable eye services that provide care to all who are in need regardless of race, religion or nationality.

We seek to motivate, inspire, and facilitate physicians, ophthalmic support staff, and others to be active in eye care in under-served regions of the world.  Inspired by the teachings of Jesus to serve those in need, we strive to bring hope and healing to the lives of the individuals, families and communities we serve by helping the blind see.

GLOBAL EYE MISSION

THE NEED

Worldwide it is estimated that there are 39 million people blind and 237 million more with moderate to severe visual impairment. It is estimated that up to 80% of all blindness is avoidable and that approximately 50% of global blindness is due to cataracts—a blindness that is curable with surgery.

Visual impairment is not distributed uniformly throughout the world.  More than 90% of those who are visually impaired live in developing countries. For those who are blind, mortality rates increase, employment can be extremely difficult, and quality of life is significantly reduced. When a person’s sight is restored or improved, it is life-changing—not only for the individual, but also for their family, their village and community.
