Global Eye Mission in

HAITI

In 2019 Global Eye Mission (GEM) agreed to partner with United Christians International (UCI) to begin the process of developing a long-term eye ministry with UCI in Haiti.  UCI is a Christian ministry that has been working in Haiti for over 15 years and has been blessed with success in establishing a number of ministry programs in education, nutrition, agriculture and other areas to empower and raise up leaders in Haiti.  Sharing the Gospel is central to UCI’s mission. 

UCI has continued to move forward on the development of a medical ministry, as part of their ongoing mission efforts in Haiti. UCI is very excited about this project, as is GEM.  The vision for this mission is to begin a new eye service run with Haitian ophthalmologists.  The initial goal is to train two Haitian doctors in a well-respected ophthalmology program in the Dominican Republic.  Our ministry partner in Haiti already has four potential candidates for training.

THE LONG-TERM

WORKING WITH UCI

In preparation for starting an eye unit, GEM will be working with UCI in supporting the training of their new ophthalmologists, designing and building an eye clinic on the UCI campus, equipping the clinic and operating room and eventually mentoring the new Haitian ophthalmologists as they begin this much needed service. 

This is a long-term project that will likely span several years to come to fruition and then many more years to continue to build.  This is a much bigger project than this partnership can possibly accomplish on its own.  It is a bit intimidating to commit to such an endeavor knowing we, alone, are not sufficient to accomplish this goal.  Clearly, any success will be to God’s glory and because of His guiding hand.  We so appreciate your prayers as we begin this journey of faith together in Haiti.
