Danja Eye Unit

NIGER

Global Eye Mission (GEM) has been involved with providing eye care to the poor in Niger since 2017. In 2017, GEM was invited to begin providing short-term surgical eye projects in Niger through LINK Missions, as no long-term mission eye program existed in the country at that time. Niger has less than one ophthalmologist for every one million people in the country, so there is a great need for ophthalmic care. Following several successful short-term projects, a door opened to help develop a long-term mission eye program with Danja Health Center. After more than two years of efforts to raise funds, acquire equipment, build an eye clinic and recruit staff, in 2024 the Danja Eye Unit was opened as a new facility for eye care in Niger. This ophthalmology center offers medical and surgical treatment for a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. The eye unit is now one of the best equipped eye clinics in the country and is already becoming a referral center for the region serving patients in Niger and surrounding countries. In addition to providing excellent treatment options, Danja’s eye unit is also able to demonstrate the love of Christ to each patient it serves.

DONATE TODAY

With the influx of patients, many can be treated by the Danja eye team, but some patients present with complex issues that require specialized care. For that reason, the eye unit is requesting specialists to assist with complex cases that will help, not only the patients involved, but also provide training for the eye team to expand their services for the future.

Danja’s eye department is in need of short and long-term healthcare professionals to assist in the growing volume of patients served through the eye unit. If you are an ophthalmologist, optometrist, optician, ophthalmic technician or have other specialization in eye care and are interested in working with Danja, please contact us.
